Training Tip 7 from Little Rock Marathon Coach Tom Singleton:
This week's tip is on practicing safe running.
I know that sounds a little bit funny, but there are a lot of things that you can do for your basic run:
- Facing traffic
- Try to remember, always wear light colored or reflective clothing
- Wear your braking lights if you're running in the dark
A big thing to remember is just because you can see a car, they don't see you out there. They might not be expecting you to be on the road.
I know for me, I run at five in the morning. At that time of day, people, they don't expect crazy people to be out running down the middle of the street. They think they're home in bed safe.
So, remember, when you're out there be sure that you're where you can get away from a car, jump in a ditch, whatever. As we say in training, don't play chicken with the cars.
