4 The Greater Good: Salvation Army Asks for Help

By: Jessica Dean, KARK 4 News

It's only September, but the Salvation Army is already thinking of stockings, Santa and the holidays. The organization plans to help 3,000 Central Arkansas children celebrate the holidays this year, but in order to that, they need volunteers' help now.

Specifically, The Salvation Army is asking people to pick up empty stockings from the organization's offices and fill them with non-perishable items. Additionally, those who wish to be a recipient of the organization's Angel Tree are asked to begin their application process which includes showing proof of identification and pay stubs.

Between the slow economy and higher than average unemployment rates, the need will be high this year, predicts Salvation Army Major April Taylor.

"We know our numbers are going to be up. We know that." says Taylor, "So, we're trying to prepare, so we need everybody thinking even now. Any help we can generate would be greatly appreciated, we do need volunteers."
