Health Experts Push Back-to-School Immunizations

By: Newsroom Solutions
Updated: August 16, 2010
Health experts are urging parents not to wait until the last minute for those back-to-school shots and check-ups.

Sandy Ryan, chief nurse practitioner for Take Care Health Systems at Walgreens, says making sure kids get the proper preventative care is the key to keeping them healthy.

Along with routine physicals for sports, many walk-in clinics are currently offering flu vaccines that protect against H1N1 and the other strains that are predicted to be active this year.

Other immunizations protect against a wide range of diseases including hepatitis, tetanus, pertussis and meningitis.

According to Ryan, parents can also help keep kids healthy by teaching them proper handwashing techniques and keeping them home from school when they do get sick.
