KARK-TV Teams up with Arkansas Rice Depot, Raises Over $25,000 for Hungry Children

KARK-TV’s new community initiative, 4 The Greater Good, was put into action during newscasts on August 10th and 11th where volunteers from the Arkansas Rice Depot were on hand and received over $25,000 in donations and pledges from generous viewers that helped feed hungry children in Arkansas. All proceeds go to the Arkansas Rice Depot Food for Kids program, a program designed to feed hungry school children suffering from academic, emotional, and health issues due to hunger at home.

Arkansas Rice Depot President and CEO Laura Rhea says, “God bless KARK and all your viewers who contributed to the Back to School Telethon for Arkansas Rice Depot. 100% of the telethon donations will be used to purchase and deliver food to schools in the KARK viewing area for students who would otherwise go hungry at night. It’s hard to be hungry for knowledge when you are just plain hungry, so now these students will be able to concentrate on their homework, and return to school ready to learn.”

During six KARK 4 newscasts, anchors and reporters helped raise awareness about Food for Kids program and how viewers at home can help. The on-air telethon also was an example of how KARK’s program 4 The Greater Good works.

Phil Wrobel, KARK Creative Services Director says, “One of our commitments with 4 The Greater Good is to help provide children with the tools and the resources they need for school and it all starts with proper nutrition.” Wrobel added, “Time and time again the amazing generosity of Arkansans stands out and this was no exception. We were honored to use our platform and talented news team to raise awareness about this important issue.”
