Alleged Witness Assault at Mann Trial Leads to Indictment

A federal grand jury has returned an indictment against Hamis Alshareqi, 22, for assaulting a witness called by the United States in the case against Dr. Randeep Mann. Dr. Mann was convicted today in Little Rock (click here for story).

Specifically, the indictment charges that on July 22nd, Alshareqi used physical force against an individual by striking the individual with a metal object, with the intent to influence and prevent the testimony of the individual in an official proceeding.

Alshareqi was being held at Pulaski County Detention Facility at the time of the charged offense.

The maximum statutory penalty for assaulting a witness in an official proceeding is not more than 30 years imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, or both.
