Two-year-old Paisley White of Waskom, Texas, dressed in a pink jogging suit with ribbons in her hair, walked happily across the finish line with her father, Heath, during today's Little Rock Marathon.
This is Paisley's fifth marathon. Her first cross over a finish line was in Little Rock in 2007 in a stroller pushed by her father.
For the White family, marathons have a significant purpose. Heath is wearing a shirt that says "My Daughter Rocks Her Extra Chromosome." He says the White family wants people everywhere to know that children with Down's Syndrome are active in families that are as normal as any other. Heath said, "Paisley is precious – she teaches us so much. People try so hard to stand out, but Paisley and other Down's Syndrome children are born as individuals who stand out."
Paisley will continue to participate in marathons all the way through when she is ready to compete on her own. The White family definitely plans on returning to Little Rock for future marathons.
Paisley will celebrate her third birthday March 16.
