Lottery Kicks off with Massive Sales

Nearly 100 people in Little Rock lined up Sunday night to buy the some of the first lottery tickets in the state.

"Of course this is for the kids,” said Veronica Whittington, “We all have children, we're excited about that, it's money we're putting out, but it's coming back to us."

This Murphy USA gas station sold five thousand dollars worth of tickets overnight.

With daylight came the second rush... by lunchtime, people were scratching off tickets all over the EZ Mart on West Markham.

And there were some big winners on Monday... the lottery commission showed off a winning ticket for a thousand dollars that was purchased by a woman in Rison, just south of Pine Bluff.

We spoke to Deborah Conner by phone.

"What went through your mind?,” we asked her, “I just started hollering... I just got crazy...I went to the cashier and scanned it to make sure I really won."

Conner says she wasn't even sure she was going to play.

"I wasn't really planning on buying much... but I think it's great now!," she said.

The lottery commission held a press conference at two-o-clock...

They say right now it appears the fastest lottery launch in lottery history is going smoothly.

But Intralot, the company that services the games, says they’ve received about 700 to 800 phone calls on equipment questions from store employees.

But they say all of those questions were rapidly resolved.
