KARK 4 AND KARZ 42 MAKE EXCITING CHANGES TO TV LINEUP
- Current shows finding new time slots, new shows added to schedule -
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- August 27, 2009 -- Change is in the air and will soon be on the air
for KARK 4 and its sister station KARZ 42.
As
the new highly anticipated NBC Fall lineup is set to start September 14th
with the launch of "The Jay Leno Show", KARK 4 has also revamped its weekday,
daytime TV schedule. The most notable change to the lineup is "The Doctors", last
season's hottest show, which will move to the 4:00
p.m. time slot and become the lead-in to KARK 4 News at 5. Judge
Judy, the show that is currently on at 4:00, will move to
3:00.
"Having
'The Doctors' as our 5:00 p.m. News lead-in,
is an exciting and important move for us. Not only is the show both engaging
and informative but it has quickly become a hit syndicated show all over the
country," said Nexstar Broadcasting Senior VP and KARK 4 General Manager Rick Rogala. "Moving
Judge Judy wasn't an easy decision. Moving the program to 3:00 strengthens
our afternoon line-up will make Judy even more accessible for its fans because
there are fewer shows like it on during that time."
Another
noticeable change to the lineup is that KARK 4 News at 11AM will be replaced by
"Rachael Ray Show" which will air from 11AM and flow directly into KARK 4's "Arkansas
at Noon". "This gives us an opportunity to utilize our resources more effectively
and tell more in-depth stories throughout the rest of our newscasts," said KARK
4 News Director Rob Heverling. "Rachael Ray is an extremely popular show and it
should be a great lead-in to Arkansas at Noon." Rachael Ray
will step into the time slot beginning September 14th.
One
change that is sure to get people talking is the move of hit soap opera "Days
of Our Lives" from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 on KARK-TV. "We
know how loyal the viewers of that show are and that they will follow it where
ever it goes; the key is going to be getting the word out to those viewers and
informing them of the change. We always have an open line of communication with
our viewers", Rogala said.
KARK 4 plans to produce informational crawls during every "Days of our Lives" episode until the change happens on September 14th. Also, KARK 4 will have a complete programming schedule posted on its website, ArkansasMatters.com.

September
14th is also the date that NBC kicks off "The Jay Leno Show" in prime time. The
move may be one of the most revolutionary decisions the network has ever made
and is expected to draw high numbers during the launch.
"Jay
Leno provides a consistent lead-in to our late newscast and the network is completely
dedicated to driving Jay's audience to our newscast at 10." Rogala said,
adding, "One other plus for Jay is that when shows on the other networks go
into reruns Jay Leno will have fresh content and we hope to gain some viewers
from that as well."
Rogala
summed up the programming changes at KARK 4 by saying, "A lot of hard work went
into molding and shaping this programming lineup and we are confident that it
will provide terrific programming for our viewers who count on us daily to
provide them with great entertainment and local information."
KARK
4's sister station KARZ 42 will see it's first Fall schedule after launching back
on February 1st. Although the main driver to the station is the
convenient 7:00 p.m. newscast from
KARK 4, "The Z" as it is known, is beginning to find its true identity in the
Little Rock Market. "Tyler Perry's House of Payne" is performing very well, as
are "Family Guy" and "King of Queens". All three shows are know as the KARZ "Big
Fat Comedy Block" and the entire block will shift time slots this fall with "House
of Payne", the strongest of the three, airing back-to-back episodes from 6:00
p.m. to 7:00 p.m. "Family Guy" will move from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and "King
of Queens" will air from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The "Big Fat Comedy Block" changes
take effect on September 7th.
Other
big hits coming to KARZ this fall are "The Office", taking the 10:00
p.m. time slot with back-to-back episodes airing to 11:00
p.m. It replaces "Sex and the City". "Deal or No Deal" will also
make its debut on KARZ with back-to-back episodes airing from 3:00
p.m. to 4:00 p.m. KARZ is also adding
"Star Trek: The Next Generation" into the mix. It will take the midnight time slot.
"The
new lineup on the Z has so much variety. It really offers something for
everyone. That's the charm of the Z; it's unlike any other local TV station out
there. Not only is the new lineup going to be enjoyable to our viewers but
advertisers can really take advantage of unique sponsorship opportunities. It's
a chance for them to get involved with shows that have proven track records
rather than just the traditional thirty-second ad. The Z offers them a little
more bang for their buck," said Rogala.
One
example of unique local programming this fall on the Z is "Fearless Live", a
full schedule of live high school football games beginning on September 1st
at 7:30. "High School
Football is a battleground in Arkansas and we (KARK
and KARZ) want to provide the most complete coverage around, the Z gives us
that opportunity. The response from the communities that are involved has truly
been outstanding. We hope this becomes a tradition in Arkansas," says
Heverling, who will also serve as Executive Producer of "Fearless Live".
