A Florida principal and athletic director may be charged with leading a prayer before a meal for school employees.
Pace High School Principal Frank Lay and Athletic Director Robert Freeman will go to trial in federal court on September 17th.
The allegations stem from a January 28th event where Lay, a Baptist church deacon, requested Freeman to lead a prayer before a meal for school employees.
The alleged violations come a year after a lawsuit settlement was reached last year with the American Civil Liberties Union.
Students and local pastors have protested the criminal charges against the two men.
There is a disagreement with who was at the meal.
An ACLU official claims Lay has admitted that some students were present, while a leader of a Christian-based legal group defending the two men said there were no students present and the meal took place on school property after hours.
