"Dateline NBC," the signature primetime broadcast for NBC News, premiered in 1992. Since then, it has pioneered a new approach to primetime news programming. The multi-night franchise, supplemented by frequent specials, allows NBC to consistently and comprehensively present the highest-quality reporting, investigative features, breaking news coverage and newsmaker profiles. The flexibility of "Dateline NBC" allows for multi-part features, hour-long documentaries devoted to single subjects, as well as a series of continuing reports. The program has consistently brought Americans in-depth coverage of breaking news, including the events of Sept. 11, Hurricane Katrina, the Tsunami in southeast Asia, the Virginia Tech shootings, the funerals of Ronald Reagan and Princess Diana, the crash of JFK Jr.'s plane, the Columbine shootings, the war in Kosovo, the crash of an Alaska Airlines plane and the crash of the Air France Concorde.
