ASU Women's Morrill Named Second Team All-Sun Belt Conference

JONESBORO, AR - Arkansas State women's basketball junior forward Jane Morrill has been named a Second Team All-Sun Belt Conference player after leading the Red Wolves in scoring this past season, the league announced Wednesday morning.

Morrill was one of five players to earn second team honors and one of just 14 players that was named to league's first, second or third teams as voted on the by the SBC's 11 head coaches and selected members of the media.

The 6-foot-1 junior is currently averaging 14.7 points per game, which is the highest mark on the team and the seventh highest among all Sun Belt Conference players. She shot 52.4 percent from the field during the regular season, the third highest percentage in the Sun Belt and the 30th best mark in the nation.

She also had one of the conference's and nation's best free throw percentages, knocking down 83.5 percent of her shots from the charity stripe, which was the fourth best mark in the league and the 46th highest mark in the country.

The Scott City, Mo., native was one of just three Red Wolves start in all 29 games this season. She finished second on the team in total rebounds (156), offensive rebounds (40) and minutes played (868), while also leading the team in defensive rebounds (116). She led A-State in scoring 14 times this season and registered double-digit point totals in 25 of the 29 games she played in.

She became the just the 21st player in the ASU women's basketball history to surpass the 1,000 career point total this past season and currently ranks 16th on the all-time ASU scoring list with 1,107 points. She recorded two double-doubles on the season, scoring 23 points and pulling down 11 rebounds against Southeast Missouri State on Nov. 19 and then scored 16 points and grabbed 10 boards against Florida Atlantic on Jan. 10. The 11 rebounds against SEMO was also career-best for the three-year letterwinner.

Florida International's Jerica Coley was tabbed the SBC Player of the Year, while Western Kentucky's Chasity Gooch took home Defensive Player of the Year honors. North Texas' Loryn Goodwin was selected as the league's Freshman of the Year, while WKU's Michele Clark-Herd was chosen as the SBC Coach of the Year. The Red Wolves, who earned the number four seed in the 2013 Sun Belt Conference Championship Tournament, will take on Florida International, Saturday March 9 at 11:30 a.m. in Hot Springs. The Red Wolves finished the regular season with a 15-14 overall record and a 12-8 mark in Sun Belt Conference play.
