Dr. Laura Connerly: Identity Theft Insurance

Identity theft is one of the most commonly reported consumer complaints.

Arkansans file nearly two-thousand identity theft complaints annually, according to the latest Federal Trade Commission Sentinel Report.

The Arkansas Attorney General's Office has issued more than 500 ID theft passports to victims of identity theft. It's no wonder that many consumers are thinking about identity theft insurance, but, is it something they need?

Dr. Laura Connerly,a personal finance expert who works with the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture Cooperative Extension Service in its Family and Consumer Sciences section, answers our questions about identity theft insurance.

She encourages everyone to work to protect their identity and says if you do buy ID theft insurance, be sure you understand what the policy covers.

She also shares tips on how to respond to ID theft.
