The city of Morrilton has a new leader at the helm of it's police department.

Mayor Stewart Nelson appointed Sonny Stover as Chief of Police at the Morrilton City Council meeting Monday night.

Stover is currently the chief deputy at the Conway County Sheriff's Office.

Nelson says Stover has the leadership and fresh ideas needed to lead the department.

But five city council members disagreed, voting to overturn the Mayor's appointment. Six votes, though, were needed to make the change.

Stover's first day as Chief has yet to be determined.
