On Thursday, December 6, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., the Metropolitan Housing Alliance will provide a community update about the Choice Neighborhood planning process.

The meeting will be held at the Arkansas State Fairgrounds Farm and Ranch Building at 2600 Howard Street in Little Rock.

The meeting is especially for residents living between Harrison and Battery Streets and Interstate 630 and Roosevelt Road/Asher Avenue.

The Choice Neighborhood initiative is a grant program funded by Housing and Urban Development, which seeks to transform distressed neighborhoods and public and assisted projects into viable and sustainable mixed-income neighborhoods by linking housing improvements with appropriate services, schools, public assets, transportation and access to jobs.

In January, HUD awarded Metropolitan Housing Alliance a $300,000 Choice Neighborhood Planning grant to plan how to transform a three square-mile area with an emphasis on the Sunset Terrace and Elm Street Communities.

These areas are affected by high crime and disproportionally high poverty rates.

Choice Neighborhood planning outreach has included meetings with various neighborhood associations, personal interviews with Choice Neighborhood residents and surveys to more than 4,000 Choice Neighborhood members.
