Central Arkansas Family Wins $40,000 in Historic Powerball Jackpot Draw

A Central Arkansas family was the biggest winner in the Natural State in last night's historic Powerball jackpot draw.

No, they didn't win millions, but because they also bought the Power Play, they turned a $10,000 prize into $40,000.

TJ & Mary Nahlen of Conway and their children Christy of Conway, Phyllis, Frances & Kenneth of Houston (Perry County) and Michael of Meeteetse, Wyoming, wasted no time claiming their winnings this morning.

Another ticket sold in Lonoke for the drawing is worth $10,000 but the winner hasn't turned it in yet.

In all, Arkansas players won a total of $1,187,622 in Powerball prizes during this Powerball run that started on October 4.

The Arkansas Scholarship Lottery says Powerball sales Wednesday threatened to set retailer terminals on fire, with sales of more than $8,000 a minute during afternoon drive time. Just yesterday, Arkansas retailers sold $3,306,371 in Powerball tickets, with total lottery sales for the day at $4,374,720. The total Powerball sales for the entire run were $10,575,205. This November, Arkansas lottery sales are already $1 Million ahead of last November with two days left to go.

Students were the biggest winners in Arkansas. Scholarship funds for November alone were enhanced by $3.4-million, $1.4 million of that just yesterday, and $4,335,834 for the entire run since October 4.

The 1,900+ lottery retailers in Arkansas earned an additional $540,636 in profits from Powerball sales since October 4.

Players are reminded that there are still two days left to buy a 50/50 ticket and get a free Hunting for Hundreds ticket. In December, you can spend $5 on Cash 3 or Cash 4 and get a free Candy Cane Cash fast play ticket.

Arkansas players have won $37,572,228 in Powerball prizes since startup on October 31, 2009.
