Deer season is in full swing here in Arkansas. You might want the thrill of the kill but not all the deer meat.

If that's the case, there's an easy way you can help feed hungry Arkansans.

"We need your deer. We really do," said Ronnie Ritter.

Ritter is urging hunters to not let their deer go to waste.  His organization Arkansas Hunters Feeding the Hungry donates deer meat to food banks all around Arkansas.

"The neat thing about it is it's very nutritious, high in protein, low in fat," said Ritter.  "Food banks need it desperately."

Here's how it works- after your hunt, field dress your deer and drop it off at one of the 65 participating processors around the state.

One of those is Kruse Processing in Saline County. Joey Hutchison said, "The best way is to bring it in an ice chest.  We take it, we de-bone it, grind it into hamburger and package it."

After that, the meat is picked up and distributed to food banks all over Arkansas. It's free for the hunter and priceless to those who receive it.

Shane Brothers of Casting Nets Outreach Ministry said, "They've helped us fulfill our vision and our goals at our outreach to feed the homeless and feed families and children."

Over the last 3 years, 200-thousand pounds of meat were donated through Arkansas Hunters Feeding the Hungry. That's about 800-thousand servings.

Participating processors are all located over the state- so there's one close by where ever you may be hunting.
