9:49 AM : Faulkner County Coroner Patrick Moore rules 12-year-old's death an accidental drowning and says heavy rains played a role in his death.
Moore told KARK the recent string of accidental deaths among young people in his county is "a little disturbing" and said he has seen a noticiable increase.
Moore also said he heard reports that the young boy was possibly trying to recover a flip flop that was swept into the water when he himself got caught in the current.
Original Story:
Officers say he was found dead in a pond after being swept away by rain water in a drainage ditch.
A 12-year-old boy has been found dead in a Conway pond.
Authorities say it appears Drake Walker was swept away by rushing water in a drainage ditch.
Officers say the water then swept him into a pond where he drowned. He was recovered around 7:30 p.m. Saturday night.
The pond is off West Tyler in the Bay Hill Drive area.
Officers say Walker and his friend were out near the ditch in a golf course community that joins up with the backside of a country club.
A quick rain had come in the area recently.
The boy's family has been notified. The pond was near his home.
The Arkansas Department of Emergency Management cannot declare this as a weather related death. They are looking into it.
This was the second drowning Saturday. An 11-year-old girl was discovered in a Springdale pond around noon.
