CHS will dedicate its new athletic field at its popular pre-season football pep rally on Wednesday, August 29, from 5 to 8 p.m. on the school campus.
An event Catholic High fans look forward to every year, the pep rally always features family-friendly activities with the anticipation of an exciting football season ahead. This year, with the dedication of a new athletic field, it also brings hope of what's to come.
"We have chosen to dedicate our new athletic field to someone whose commitment to Catholic High athletics is unparalleled," said Steve Straessle, the school's principal. "This person's drive for excellence is the epitome of the Catholic High experience."
Festivities begin at 5 p.m. with a cookout. Attendees are asked to contribute $1 for their meal; each person's name will also be entered in the Kick For Cash drawing for an opportunity to kick a field goal and possibly win $500.
Monsignor Lawrence Frederick, CHS rector, will offer a blessing of the field, with the dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony to follow.
The pep rally marks the launch of the first fundraising campaign CHS has undertaken since the school was built more than 50 years ago.
"We commit ourselves to ensuring that the values and traditions of our past are as vibrant today as they were generations ago," Straessle said. "To continue strengthening our position as one of the premier college preparatory schools for young men in Arkansas, we need an updated educational setting. We believe our planned renovations are needed to continue inspiring each student to achieve above and beyond his potential."
Benefits of the campaign are already being seen as the athletic field, cafeteria and gymnasium have all been updated with campaign contributions.
CHS is the oldest and largest Catholic school for boys in the state.
