Health Matters with Dr. David: Vitamin Enriched Foods

We need to re-think the use of vitamin supplements. We take them to improve our health, but they may do the exact opposite like increase the risk of heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer's and even shorten life expectancy.
Don't get me wrong, vitamins are essential to your health, but to be of value, they need to be natural and pure, so get them from real food.
Believe me, it's not hard to create a meal with all the vitamins you need.
Here are some good examples of vitamin A: sweet potatoes, carrots and spinach.
Vitamin C, you obviously know about oranges and citrus, are good source for the vitamins, but so too are green peppers and dark leafy vegetables.
And what about vitamin D? good sources are fatty fish like salmon and tuna, eggs and milk, and as a bonus, spend a little time in the sun.
Finally vitamin E. To get the healthiest source, go nuts, my favorite choices are almonds, sunflower seeds, or of peanut butter.
In America, over rather than under nutrition is a major health threat.
So here is my final food for thought. Forget about the pills, if you want to stay healthy, consume a prudent, balanced diet.
