Jean Trusty leads an active, healthy life. Even in her 80's she works in the state legislature keeping the wheels of state government rolling.
But since her husband died ten years ago she felt something or someone was missing.
"I wanted to meet someone nice, but when you live alone you don't go out at night."
She tried the church singles group...
"There was about three men to about thirty women."
Finally Jean went with another approach.
"I was at my daughters and I said you know I think I'd like to get on eHarmony."
eHarmony is one of dozens of internet dating sites that connect like- minded singles. one of the names that popped up was Herb Kunz. Jean's family gave his picture the thumbs up.
"Even my great grandaughter picked him out for me."
Herb too had been married for over a half century... he lost his wife four years ago.
"It's a lousy feeling after your spouse passes. It takes about a year and then you have to get out."
So Herb "go out" on the internet.
"You list things you like to do and one of Jean's was she likes to make desserts. Having nothing else to go on and I know I like desserts I thought well I'm going to give that a shot. Plus she looked very nice in her picture... she's so pretty, beautiful."
After exchanging e-mails and phone calls... they're now going to exchange wedding vows. Herb and Jean are engaged to be married. Both felt the connection from their very first lunch.
"I thought ooh that's a nice looking man coming in and then he came and said ohh what a lovely lady."
Now they're enjoying their just desserts... actually it's just left over cake from herb's 80th birthday party.
"We've never really disagreed we get along great."
It sounds like a match made in heaven.
"God had to bring us together... or it wouldn't have happened the way it did."
Whether it was devine intervention or just cyber-matchmaking it doesn't matter. What counts is that love is the key to longevity. Both will live longer, happier lives together. It's a good thing Jean can make desserts... they're going to need a lot more birthday cakes.
