In 2013, the championship will visit 10 cities across the United States in its quest to crown a champion, boasting a fresh new format and championship points system. On February 16, reigning back-to-back national champion, Tyler Bowers, will lead the world's best arenacross competitors into Little Rock for one night of captivating action from Verizon Arena for the seventh round of the season.
A new competitive format that showcases Head-to-Head Bracket Racing and two Main Events is sure to guarantee high drama as riders battle mere inches from one another while launching up to 30 feet in the air on a highly technical track filled with air-inducing obstacles. Never before in 27 years of AMSOIL Arenacross competition has so much been on the line as coveted points will be up for grabs throughout each night of action.
Additionally, the inaugural Race to the Championship will kick off in Little Rock. The top 10 riders in the championship standings will lay it all on the line over the course of the final four rounds of the season in hopes of achieving their dream of winning the AMSOIL Arenacross title. The drama and excitement of the sport is sure to reach new heights during this showdown to crown a champion.
AMSOIL Arenacross is the world's most intimate form of dirt-bike racing, with man-made dirt battlegrounds built inside just 18,000 square feet of space. An astounding 170 truckloads of dirt will be brought in to the arena, boasting 1,500 cubic yards of soil that is sculpted into a technical, awe-inspiring layout made to challenge riders and bring the crowd to its feet. Hundreds of riders will vie for the chance to win during an elimination format that will leave just 16 riders with a shot at victory every evening.
Week in and week out, the national tour travels the country, from the shores of New England to the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, ultimately logging over 10,000 miles by season's end. At each stop, AMSOIL Arenacross turns America's most beloved arenas into a showcase of speed, precision, and aggression. Each night, one rider will stand above the rest as the winner, putting them one step closer to the ultimate goal of being crowned champion.
The 2013 season also signifies the start of Ricky Carmichael's Road to Supercross, an official program that will serve as the stepping stone for a rider's path to Monster Energy Supercross. Named after the most successful rider in AMA history, the Road to Supercross creates a formalized rider advancement structure exclusively within AMSOIL Arenacross that establishes advancement guidelines for all riders who aspire to compete professionally at the sport's highest level.
