Little Rock Woman Dies after Vehicle Slides into Pond, Child Critically Injured

The Little Rock Police Department is investigating a morning accident that killed a woman and left her young son critically injured when their vehicle went off the road into a pond.

It happened around 8:45 along Cooper Orbit Road near Rushmore Drive on the city's west side.

Jinglei Yi, 39, was driving her 2006 Ford Expedition headed east when police believe she hit a patch of ice officers noted at the intersection of Cooper Orbit and Rushmore.

and slid off the road into the water.

Yi's five-year-old son, Le Yang, survived the accident but was hospitalized in critical condition.

The police report shows that when officers arrived, Yi's SUV was completely submerged in the pond and that both victims had been pulled out of the vehicle and rushed to the hospital.
