Food Corps is looking for 130 men and women willing to dedicate one year of their lives to working in schools to promote hands-on nutrition programs.
These service members, for example, build and tend school gardens and work to bring quality locally-grown food into schools.
Part of this effort is about teaching kids the importance of eating right.
"There's a clear need out there, as a nation we've forgotten what it means to have a healthy diet and a lot of kids really don't have a connection with their food or know where their food comes from," says Rachel Spencer, Food Corps Fellow.
Food Corps this year is planning to expand its program to California, Hawaii and New Jersey.
