The cause is still under investigation.

The Pine Bluff Fire Department is not releasing the identities of the victims but a person at the scene who knew them said it was a mother and her three-year-old son.

"We hate to see anyone lose their life for any reason," said Fire Chief Shauwn Howell. "But it's extremely tough this time of year approaching the holiday season. A child was involved and it was just a loss on a number of levels. "

Fire officials also said there were no signs of a smoke detector in the house.
