The United Way kicked off its 2012 campaign at Dickey Stephens Park in Little Rock on Wednesday.

Nonprofit organizations set up booths to display the work they do to show how vital they are to the community.

Ronald McDonald House, American Red Cross, Arkansas Food Bank and dozens of other local charities depend on United Way funds to carry out their missions.

"This is our big fundraising season where we are bringing in people in the community, nonprofit organizations, businesses in hopes of raising funds to be disbursed into our community," says Public Relations Director Denver Landers.

Last year the United Way raised more than $4 million to help people with disabilities, low-income seniors and disadvantaged youth, among others.
