The oldest surviving member of the famed Tuskegee Airmen was honored today in North Little Rock.

Milton Pitts Crenchaw was given a Lifetime Achievement Award and honorary membership in the American Legion Post 74 in an afternoon ceremony.

Crenchaw was the primary flight instructor at Tuskegee Army Airfield in Tuskegee, Alabama during World War II.

Crenchaw is considered the father of black aviation in the State of Arkansas.

"It's something I never dreamed of. Every time you make a good step something good comes out of it and I certainly appreciate the option given to me, this opportunity to come over and receive this honor," he said.

Crenchaw added that he's grateful for today's honor as well as having lived as long as he has and also to hold the title of oldest surviving member of the legendary group.
