Little Rock Store Worker Accused of Stealing Lottery Tickets

A Little Rock store worker has been arrested on theft charges after police accuse him of stealing lottery tickets.

Alfred Walker, 31, turned himself in on Friday morning, and was soon after released on bond.

Walker works at the Raceway gas station on South University Avenue.

On April 23rd, a customer filed a complaint with the Arkansas State Lottery Commission after buying an Arkansas Millionaires Club scratch-off lottery ticket with a bonus box that had already been scratched off.

About an hour later, a second complaint came in about the same game bought from the same store.

The head of lottery security then went to the gas station and had the manager, Walker, remove all of the 20-dollar Millionaires Club tickets from the dispenser.

After the store owner filed a police report, an investigation revealed that Walker was the only employee who had a key to the locked bin where the unactivated lottery tickets are kept.

Walker takes a daily inventory of all of the lottery tickets and records them on a computer, according to the police report.

Police say on April 23rd, Walker had taken an inventory and falsely recorded that all 174 Millionaires Club tickets were in the store. An inventory done later by District Manager showed that the store only had 102 of the tickets and that on the morning of April 23rd, 72 of them were missing.

At that time, it could not be determined which employee was scratching the tickets before selling them, police said.

Last Thursday, a Theft of Property warrant was issued for Walker and he turned himself in at police headquarters the next day.
