  • ASU’s Carrington Named Academic All-District VI
    Reported by: KARK 4 Sports

    Friday, Nov 6, 2009 @09:10am CST

Arkansas State senior defensive end Alex Carrington (Tupelo, Miss.) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI football team, released Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Carrington, the 2009 Sun Belt Conference Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, has started every game this season for the Red Wolves. He has posted 24 tackles, including 7.5 tackles for loss, and three sacks this season while carrying a 3.52 GPA in Psychology.

Carrington recorded a season-high five tackles against Louisiana-Monroe and has recorded multiple stops in every game this year. His 24 total tackles are the most on the team among defensive linemen.

Carrington has now tallied 129 tackles, 33.5 tackles for loss and 15.5 sacks during his career at ASU. The 2008 Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year is on the 2009 watch lists for the Lott Trophy, Lombardi Award and Ted Hendricks Award.

ASU has now placed a player on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District football team for the third consecutive year. Former ASU defensive end Brian Flagg, who was named a First Team Academic All-America selection last year, was on the all-district team in 2008, 2007 and 2005.

Carrington will now be placed on the Academic All-America ballot. To be nominated for Academic All-America honors, student-athletes must maintain at least a cumulative 3.2 GPA and be at least a sophomore both academically and in athletic eligibility.
