    Reported by: KARK 4 Sports

    Wednesday, Nov 4, 2009 @09:05am CST

UALR sophomore forward Christina Veasley has been named a First Team All-Sun Belt selection as announced by the league office Tuesday evening.

Western Kentucky midfielder Kellie Walker was named player of the year, goalkeeper Kaitlyn Savage of Florida International was named Freshman of the Year and Thomas Chestnutt, head coach of FIU, was named Coach of the Year.

Veasley, who has helped the Trojans return to the Sun Belt Conference Tournament for the fourth-straight season, is tied for the league lead in goals scored (11), goals per game (.58), and is second in points (24). In conference games only, Veasley leads in points (18), goals (8), goals per game (.73) and is second in shots (43) and shots per game (3.91).

The Alamogordo, N.M. native has played and started all 19 games this season for the Trojans and has recorded a team-high four game-winning goals.

Veasley has been named Sun Belt Player of the Week one time this season after helping her squad to a 3-1 victory over Denver. In that contest on Oct. 18, Veasley recorded a hat-trick to help lead the Trojans to their first every victory over the Pioneer’s in the program’s history. Earlier that weekend, Veasley scored the only goal in UALR’s 2-1 loss to North Texas, giving her a total of four goals for the weekend.

Veasley and the rest of the Trojans open up play at the Sun Belt Conference Tournament on Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. The Trojans, who enter the tournament as a No. 8 seed, will take on top-seeded Florida International at FAU Soccer Stadium in Boca Raton, Fla. The two teams met back on Oct. 23, with the Golden Panthers recording a home win over the Trojans 1-0.
