Reported by: Newsroom Solutions Monday, Nov 9, 2009 @08:00am CST A Chattaroy, Washington woman has finally found her stolen 1965 blue Volkswagen Bus.
The vehicle was reported stolen from a Spokane auto repair shop on July 12, 1974 while the city hosted the World's Fair. Michelle Squires called it her "hippie van." In October, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials in Los Angeles found the vehicle while examining a container that was to be shipped to the Netherlands. Officers ran the VIN number on a database and discovered its stolen history. The VW Bus was found in shiny, pristine condition. The bus is now in the hands of Allstate insurance. Squires says she plans to contact Allstate about possibly getting the vehicle back, although she believes she couldn't afford it now. The refurbished VW is worth more than 25-thousand dollars. Squires recalls Allstate paid her around 600-dollars in 1974 as reimbursement for the stolen bus. |
