  • NY Church Says "No" to Halloween-Themed Wedding
    Reported by: Newsroom Solutions

    Thursday, Oct 29, 2009 @08:45am CDT

A New York couple is looking for a new place to tie the knot after a clergyman in Westchester County derailed their plans for a Halloween-themed wedding on Saturday at the historic Old Dutch Church.

Jim Nieves and Lisa Panensky's wedding ceremony was to include "fun gothic" music, including themes from "The Addams Family" and "The Munsters."

Nieves was to wear a black pirate shirt, with Panensky hoping to dress in a black dress and veil.

The couple signed a contract 13 months ago to hold the wedding at the church, but the pastor says he was unaware of their plans for a spooky, Halloween-themed ceremony, including references to Satan.

The clergyman says they do not utilize the historic, 17th-century church for costume parties.

The church has offered to refund the deposit, but Nieves says they have few options and may resort to holding the ceremony at their home.
