    Winter Weather

With this latest round of winter weather, how do you feel about the snow we've been getting?
I don't like it at all.
It's nice, but I'm ready for Spring.

  • Protestors Hit Capital Steps Opposing Healthcare Bill
Reported by: Pete Thompson, KARK 4 News

    Thursday, Nov 19, 2009 @06:23pm CST

Dick Morris talked about what he considers to be the massive cost of the new health care plan.

"To quote George Bush that's fuzzy math... that leaves you with a deficit three times what it was when Obama took office," said Morris.

We checked with the capitol budget office…they say the bill would actually trim the deficit.

But Morris went on to say seniors face important medicare cuts if it passes... and extra taxes will be levied on medical devices such as pacemakers and prosthetics.

He said the costs are too great... and the crowd agreed.

"We're in deficit, we're in recession, we can't afford it, we can't afford this health care bill," said Mark Fitzpatrick.

"Seniors have paid all their dues in the past... now they're looking at massive cuts," said Jim Martin.

But there's no question, some local small business owners see it differently.

On a teleconference call Thursday, they talked about how the new bill could be the solution for so many uninsured Americans.

"I think for the greatest country and richest in the world... not being able to do what countries all over the world can do and not provide health insurance is a travesty," said Little Rock restaurant owner Kathy Webb.

Those small business owners also say it would finally keep the insurance industry honest.

“I think the public option would drive down the cost of healthcare where everyone could afford it," said Pine Bluff business owner Diane Johnson.
