Reported by: KARK 4 News Thursday, Nov 19, 2009 @11:45am CST Nearly three weeks after a Fort Smith police officer was shot during a routine traffic stop, the 911 call from the incident has been released. [Click here to listen].
Officer Barney Parsons was shot four times in the early morning hours of November 1 after he pulled over Tristan J. Honey, 25, of Fort Smith. Honey was arrested later that day in Tucumcari, New Mexico, when he walked into a port of entry station and turned himself in. Honey told New Mexico State Police that his truck had broken down. Parsons had pulled over Honey for running a stop sign when he allegedly jumped out of his vehicle and opened fire on Parsons. The officer was wounded twice in the leg, once in the foot, and once in the chest, but he was wearing a bulletproof vest. He was hospitalized for a few days after the incident. Parsons was able to return fire, but the suspect was not injured. Honey is being held in the Sebastian County Jail on one-million-dollars bond. |
