Reported by: KARK 4 News Thursday, Nov 5, 2009 @12:30pm CST The Arkansas Supreme Court has suspended a Phillips County Circuit Court Judge without pay until the end of his 2010 term.
The high court based its decision on the fact that Judge L. T. Simes continued to practice law while serving on the bench. Simes is also not allowed to practice law during his suspension, which runs until December 31, 2010. However, the court rejected a recommendation from the Judicial Discipline and Disability Commission to permanently remove Simes and said he could seek office again. Simes had claimed to have been fired from acting as administrator of an estate, but records show he billed for work on the case after his 1997 election. Click here to read the court's full opinion. |
