New Yorkers were out early this morning, celebrating the Yankees capturing the team's 27th World Series crown. Hundreds of fans stood in Times Square in midtown Manhattan to watch the final innings of Game Six of the series as the Yankees defeated the Philadelphia Phillies, 7-3. Some spectators in midtown were jumping for joy on taxi cabs, while passing cars honked their horns. Series Most Valuable player Hideki Matsui homered and drove in six runs to lead the Yankees in Game Six of the Fall Classic at Yankee Stadium. Andy Pettitte pitched five-and-two-thirds innings of three-run ball for his record 18th postseason win as New York won its first World Series since 2000. |
