Reported by: Lauren Lea, KARK 4 News Wednesday, Nov 4, 2009 @10:14pm CST The holiday shopping season is just around the corner, but the Little Rock mayor has an idea that could save you money while boosting the city coffers.
Mayor Mark Stodola's idea is the phrase "Shop the Rock." While just a phrase now, it could be a full-fledged campaign in the near future. Stodola wants to promote the fact that Little Rock's half of a cent sales tax is lower than any other city in central Arkansas. He believes that would save shoppers some money while bringing in revenue for the city. The city has had to slash the budget three times because of lower sales tax revenue and they're already anticipating having to cut millions for the 2010 budget. Stodola says they're still in the brain-storming stage, but the campaign, if it comes to fruition, could include signs and advertisements, which could be funded from the mayor's budget. |
