Reported by: KARK 4 News Monday, Nov 2, 2009 @04:20pm CST There's a development to report in the investigation of rape allegations made against three University of Arkansas basketball players earlier this year.
Today, a Washington County Circuit Court Judge ordered that a special prosecutor be called in to take another look at the evidence. John Bass, the attorney for the alleged victim had made the recommendation to the court after saying Washington County Prosecutor John Threet is too close to the case because of his family ties* to the school's athletic department. Threet responded by saying his relationships had nothing to do with the outcome of the investigation, and he decided not to pursue the claims after finding no evidence to support the woman's accusations. The victim in the case claims that on August 27 she attended a fraternity party at the Phi Gamma Delta house on the UA campus, where she had "nonconsensual sexual relations" with the three players. *Threet’s father-in-law is former Athletic Director Frank Broyles, and his brother-in-law is Kevin Trainor, the current athletic spokesperson for the UA. |
