Reported by: KARK 4 News Tuesday, Nov 3, 2009 @05:45pm CST The jury selection process picks up again at 9:30 Wednesday morning in the Curtis Vance capital murder trial in Little Rock.
After two days of interviews with members of the jury pool, the court has chosen 11 jurors. They need 12, plus two more alternates. Eight jury members were seated on Monday, and three more were added to the panel Tuesday. They will hear the case of the Marianna man accused in the beating death of Little Rock TV anchorwoman Anne Pressly. So far, most of the attorneys' questions have concerned whether or not potential jurors were influenced by media coverage leading up to the trial, and what views those potential jurors hold on the death penalty. Opening arguments are expected to begin Wednesday, right after jury selection is completed. Of potential jurors dismissed so far, four were because of their having seen media coverage of the October 2008 case. Leaving the courthouse Monday night, Vance said he did not think he could get a fair trial. On Tuesday, Vance had little to say. Pressly died five days after being beaten and sexually assaulted in her home during a break-in. |
