Reported by: Jancey Sheats Wednesday, Oct 7, 2009 @05:37pm CDT Plant a seed when they are young and children will grow into mature and responsible young adults. That's the hope behind the GROW program put on by the Junior League of Little Rock.
Girls Realizing Opportunity Within is designed to reach out to young women at a time when their self esteem and self image is forming. The program is open to middle school girls in the Little Rock School District. Since the project began in 2004, GROW has mentored 180 young women. Grow girls attend monthly Saturday meetings and two retreats throughout the school year. Meeting topics include goal setting and communication skills, career orientation, manners and etiquette, voluntarism, and health and nutrition. If you would like more information about the program, go to www.jllr.org. |
