Reported by: KARK 4 News Friday, Oct 2, 2009 @09:25am CDT Arkansans will have the opportunity October 13 to buy designer shoes at a discount on the QVC cable television network and help raise money for cancer research at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS).
The Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute at UAMS will receive a portion of the money raised through the 16th annual QVC Presents “FFANY Shoes on Sale,” a live broadcast to be held from 6 - 9 p.m. (CST) October 13 on QVC. Shoes are already for sale online, click here. The sale, sponsored by the Fashion Footwear Charitable Foundation (FFANY) and QVC, is an annual event to raise money for breast cancer research and education. This year actor Jessica Simpson joins in helping publicize the event. A selection of Simpson's own fashion footwear line, Jessica Simpson Collection in partnership with the Camuto Group, will be available during QVC Presents "FFANY Shoes on Sale". The fashionable event unites QVC, one of the largest multimedia retailers in the world, with the Fashion Footwear Association of New York (FFANY), who together have donated more than $30 million to the cause. This year, more than 100,000 pairs of shoes, from more than 100 brands, will be sold at half the manufacturer's suggested retail price, with net proceeds benefiting breast cancer research and education institutions. In addition to UAMS, beneficiaries for the 2009 QVC Presents "FFANY Shoes on Sale" event include: The Abramson Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, The Gillette Center for Women's Cancers at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, The Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins, The University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center's Breast Oncology Program, The Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine and The John Wayne Cancer Institute Breast Center at Saint John's Health Center. |
