Reported by: Jancey Sheats, KARK 4 News Wednesday, Aug 12, 2009 @06:35pm CDT A few weeks ago, we aired a story about a woman in Hot Springs who visits hospice patients with her dog Katie.
Shortly after, we received an e-mail from Deloris Holladay. When we heard her story, we just had to share it with you as well. Meet Sunny. He’s probably named for his bright appearance, but it’s a name fitting of his personality as well. "He's just real loving. He just loves everybody," says owner Deloris Holladay. "I've had him at my doctor's office and my dentist's office. I also take him to farmers market and people line up to take pictures of him," she adds. Sunny flew onto our radar last week at the Chenal Heights Nursing Home. He was perched on his owner's shoulder. Receptionist Trecee Anderson says she was surprised the first time she saw the pair. "I always greet everyone when they come in and I looked up and saw this bird on Mrs. Holladay’s shoulder," she says. "I get tickled. I really love it. It really brings me a lot of pleasure to see the look on the people's faces," says Holladay. By now though, residents here are used to seeing Deloris and her bright yellow parakeet. The friendly duo visits Chenal Heights almost every week. "She takes him around to visit the residents and they play with him,” says Anderson. “It makes the residents very happy. They enjoy seeing him." Deloris says it just brings so much happiness to so many people. Sunny and Deloris go room to room. Deloris talks to the residents and Sunny does a little closer inspection. Deloris says Sunny's a bird of many words. "It might be momma's baby and I love you or give me a kiss." Apparently he's also a little camera shy because he was quiet when we met him. But in person, he's a very bubbly bird with a big heart. "He may not know what the words mean, but he can flat say I love you,” says Holladay. In a world full of clouds, we're thankful to Deloris for sharing her little ray of sunshine with so many. |
