Reported by: RNS Newsroom Solutions Friday, Aug 7, 2009 @08:00am CDT Imagine being charged for not using something.
That's now happening with credit cards.
"USA Today" reports card issuers have been raising all kinds of card rates this year. Discover is now charging a two-percent fee to users on any purchases made outside the U.S. Another bank, Fifth Third, is charging customers 19-dollars if they don't use their plastic for 12-months. Citigroup has just started something called a "reinstatement fee" for card users who pay late and who want to redeem accumulated points for rewards. The newspaper quotes Adam Jusko, founder of IndexCreditCards.com as saying issuers are "hoping to slip in fees where they're least likely to be noticed." Industry experts say consumers need to take a careful look at each and every credit card bill looking for fine print that will announce fee changes. |
