  • Former Teacher Accused of Having Sex with Minor
Reported by: Courtney Collins, KARK 4 News

    Friday, Aug 21, 2009 @06:14pm CDT

A Beebe school teacher who resigned earlier this month has been arrested for sexual assault.

Rebecca Harvey, 36, is accused of having sex with a then 17-year-old student on several occasions.

At the time she was a media teacher at Badger Elementary School.

"It's unfortunate for everyone and we have really good people at Beebe and we feel sorry for both families,” says Superintendent Dr. Belinda Shook. "As far as I understand, there was no contact at school."

"A teacher shouldn't be able to get away with something like that regardless of a child's age. They hold a position where they should have to abide by the laws even more so than anyone else," says parent April Vincent.

The alleged victim says Harvey also gave him alcohol.

She bonded out of the White County Jail yesterday.
