Reported by: Lauren Lea, KARK 4 News Monday, Nov 2, 2009 @10:10pm CST Arkansans have been able to play Powerball for about two days now and we're two days away from the first drawing. Vendors are selling an average of $1.3 million dollars worth of scratch-off tickets a day, but how do Powerball ticket sales compare?
Arkansas Scholarship Lottery Director Ernie Passailaigue says you can't make a fair comparison between the two because they are two different games. He adds that scratch-off tickets have already built up a core base of players. On Sunday, $1,037,000 worth of scratch-off tickets were sold. Comparatively, $153,000 worth of Powerball tickets were sold that same day. As of 3 p.m. Monday, $300,000 worth of Powerball tickets had been sold. Passailaigue says typically sales spike on drawing days, which are Wednesdays and Saturdays. He says different people are likely to play the two games. Also, the bigger the jackpot, the more likely people are to play, he says. Wednesday's estimated jackpot is $66 million. Passailaigue encourages all Arkansans to play responsibly.
