  • Arkansans Playing Powerball
Reported by: Lauren Trager, KARK 4 News

    Sunday, Nov 1, 2009 @04:30pm CST

It’s official. Arkansans have a chance at hitting a $66 million Powerball jackpot.

The multi-state draw game kicked-off in Arkansas last night and in less than two hours Arkansans bought $27,000 in tickets.

Arkansas is the 31st state to participate in Powerball, a draw game with minimum jackpots of 20 million dollars.

Today, Arkansans were definitely getting in on the game. At the EZ Mart on Markham in Little Rock the scanning machine was busy and the receipts for tickets stacking up.

While organizers say Sunday is typically a slower sales day, there was a steady trickle of customers today, some buying both scratch-offs and Powerball tickets. The clerk here had to help some fill out the slips, unfamiliar with all the options.

And those who played were thinking about what they'd do with $66 million, this week's jackpot amount.

"I would pay off my student loans and get a Master's. Put it towards a family and a house,” said Powerball player Lise Strigel.

"If I won, I would start a business of some type. Probably something original, but I am sure I would have a lot of things to do with that much money,” said jackpot hopeful, Terry Leonard.

Tickets purchased now are for the first drawing in the state on Wednesday. And there's only one place to watch that drawing on TV and that’s KARK 4 News every Wednesday and Saturday night at 9:59 p.m.
