    Stretch Marks

    What are Scars?
Scar tissue forms as skin heals after an injury (such as an accident) or surgery. The amount of scarring may be determined by the wound size, depth, and location; the person’s age; heredity; and skin characteristics including color (pigmentation). With the exception of very minor lesions, every wound results in some degree of scarring. Early scars are red or purple in color, a result of new blood vessels and inflammation. Mature scars are pale or white in color. No scar can be removed completely. How much the scar improves will depend on the direction and size of the scar, the age of the person, the skin type and color, and hereditary factors that may affect the healing process.

    They commonly occur after:

    • Surgery
    • An Accident
    • A Disease

    What are Stretch Marks?
Stretch marks are among the most common of scars.

Stretch marks (Striae Distensae) are common skin conditions that represent linear dermal scars accompanied by epidermal atrophy. They are frequent undesirable skin lesions that result in considerable aesthetic concern. Early stretch marks (immature) usually are red in color and respond extremely well to treatment. Mature stretch marks typically are white in color and usually have a 50% improvement in texture.

Approximately 90% of pregnant women, 70% of adolescent females, and 40% of adolescent males have stretch marks.

    They commonly occur after:

    • Rapid weight loss or weight gain
    • Pregnancy
    • Rapid growth spurts

    What areas can I treat?
You can treat virtually any area stretch marks and scarring appears. Common treatment areas include:

    • Abdomen
    • Thighs
    • Breasts
    • Buttocks
    • Upper Arms
    • Flank
    • Back of Knees
    • Lower Back

    How can they be treated?
At Sona, a customized treatment plan will be tailored to undertake your individual needs.

A series of treatments may include:

    • Peels and microdermabrasion to improve skin texture, firmness, and color.
    • Advanced Fluorescent Technology reduces the red color of early stretch marks and
works to improve the overall appearance.
    • Pixel treatments promote an increase inthe amount of collagen and elastin fibers
and work to improve the texture of the skin.

    What are the results?
Results can be seen after a single session; however, the most significant improvement typically after 3 to 5 treatments. As your treatments progress, you will notice the color of the stretch mark and scar diminish. Additionally, the texture of the skin will have dramatic improvement, leaving the area softer and smoother. The early stretch marks (striae rubra) and scars, usually red in color, notably have the most dramatic results; however, all types of stretch marks (striae alba) and scars can achieve noticeable improvement. This technology is safe and effective with minimal side effects, a wide safety margin, and no downtime.
