Mardi Gras is the day before Ash Wednesday. Among Catholics and other Christians it is a day of indulgence and celebration before the beginning of lent. It is most typically a Roman Catholic Holiday. The literal translation in English is Fat Tuesday. This celebration dates back before Christianity and was originally centered around a great feast. Christians reworked the holiday as a part of the Epiphany celebrating the three wise men bringing gifts to Jesus.
