Reported by: Courtney Collins, KARK 4 News Tuesday, Jun 24, 2008 @01:25pm CDT Now that a missing Mountain Home toddler has been found safe, a Norfork woman is behind bars charged with kidnapping. Police are also investigating how she picked up the boy from his daycare.
Arkansas State Police issued an Amber Alert Monday afternoon after 16 month old Aiden Chase Mullin went missing from the Open Arms Learning Center Daycare. According to police, 18 year old Samantha House-Baser called the daycare sometime Monday, saying she was Aiden's aunt, there had been a family emergency and she needed to come pick up the boy right away. The daycare, which is owned by Rep. Johnny Key, says they told the woman on the phone, posing as Aiden's mother, that the "aunt" wasn't on the family's pick-up list. They said they allowed the woman to pick up the child because who they thought was the mother, said it was an emergency. Police say Aiden's mom did not know her son was missing until she went to pick him up at 5:00 Monday afternoon. She called police & started putting up fliers with Aiden's picture on them. Police say they got dozens of phone calls from people in the town, claiming to have seen the boy. It wasn't until 10pm that police got a credible tip about where the boy was and they were waiting at House-Baser's house when she pulled up in the driveway. Police say Aiden was in the car with House-Baser and two other men. Police arrested House-Baser but do not know the relationship between the teen and the boy's family. The boy's parents say they don't know her and have never seen her before. Hear from the toddler's mom and dad, tonight on KARK 4 at 5:00 & 6:00. |
