"A terrible mistake" --- that's what a national animal rights organization is calling the release of dogs into one of Arkansas's national forests.

PETA officials tell us they are working with the Helena West-Helena mayor -- to find a solution to the town's animal control crisis.

We're told PETA has offered to pay for two city animal control officers to attend training in Little Rock.

No word yet on whether Mayor Valley will accept the offer.
