Reported by: Mallory Hardin, KARK 4 News Monday, Jan 26, 2009 @05:49pm CST An Arkansan is one step closer to becoming an American idol. Kris Allen, a twenty 23 year old business student at the University of Central Arkansas just made it to Hollywood in the national competition.
The spotlight is nothing new to Kris Allen. He's played on the worship team at New Life Church for years. But now his spotlight has become much larger, as the entire nation watched him sing his way to Hollywood on American Idol. Allen's national debut is generating a lot of buzz around the UCA campus. "He has a lot of fans out there supporting him, especially from our school, so I’m really excited for him," UCA student Kiniai Gordon said. But his close friends say the hype hasn't gone to his head. Allen's described as extremely humble, with faith playing a big part in his life. "He's a great man of God. That's what he bases in his marriage and his music," Friend Danner Rogers said. Friends and fans of Allen say this is only the beginning of what we'll see from the aspiring 23 year old star. "I’m hoping that he makes to the top ten," UCA student Emily Hartle said. "I expect him to win," Friend John Brunson said. "He’s an American idol. It’s going to be great to see him win the whole competition," Rogers said. |
